Final session of CUNEF Universidad’s 1st Moot Court Competition
April 2, 2025
The final session of CUNEF Universidad’s first Moot Court Competition took place last Wednesday, 2 April, when the two finalist student teams argued a complex practical case before a panel made up of prominent legal experts. The participants drew lots to see which party they would represent in the case, where the claimant was a company whose goods had been lost during transport by a shipping company and a carrier company under allegedly negligent conditions. During the session, the students had a chance to analyse, apply and argue issues related to civil and commercial law, as well as international regulations on maritime transport.
The competition, which was carried out in two phases, was organised in collaboration with the European Law Students’ Association – ELSA Madrid CUNEF.
PEMP & Asociados, the team created by students Pablo Benito Martín, Mario Barbero Martínez, Marta Elena García Martínez and Paula García-Calvo Pérez Cejuela, was declared winner by the expert panel, made up of Francisco Marín Castán, former President of the Supreme Court, Sebastián Albella, former Chairman of the National Securities Market Commission, and Javier García de Enterría, Chair of the Professorship of Legal Studies at CUNEF Universidad. The finalist team was Lex Nova, formed by students Jaime Domínguez Molina, Fernando José Fernández Pertusa, Jaime Gil Conde and Ignacio Barbero del Peso.
These competitions, which have strong international presence and significance, complement Law students’ education by enhancing their legal knowledge along with their argumentation and oral reasoning skills.
