BIO
Manuel Lainz is a member of the Quantitative Methods department at CUNEF. Previously, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at ICMAT. He has a BSc in Mathematics and another in Physics from Universidad de Cantabria, where he specialised in geometric mechanics and differential geometry and spent a study period at Princeton University. His PhD thesis, guided by Professor Manuel de León at UAM, focused on contact Hamiltonian systems, providing insights into modelling irreversible dynamics and controlling friction-induced behaviours in thermodynamic and mechanical systems. He has made significant theoretical and practical contributions to this field, including “Contact Hamiltonian Systems”, published in the Journal of Mathematical Physics, which has garnered 100 citations on Google Scholar. He has collaborated with renowned authors on various topics, such as plasma physics, control theory, and thermodynamics, both nationally and internationally.
