The summer programme “Law in the Digital Age: From Citizens to Artificial Intelligence” has been conceived to enable participants to understand how digital technologies, especially AI, are transforming the legal industry and citizens’ rights. It is especially aimed at:

To offer a comprehensive view of ODR, addressing its different mechanisms, including their advantages and disadvantages, as well as the main agents involved. The programme includes a detailed analysis of techniques such as mediation, conciliation, arbitration and negotiation.

Cybersecurity and cybercrime

To prepare students to face the challenges posed by cybersecurity and cybercrime legislation worldwide by building skills that will enable them to operate in a global legal and technological context.

Topic 2Digital Services Market. Intellectual Property

Content:

Digital transformations and their structural and functional impact on democratic rule of law. The Law between conservation and change. Basic rights in the digital age: privacy and data protection; freedom of speech and content moderation on digital platforms; digital disconnection and its implications; equal access to technology.

Digital service market regulation: interoperability, competition and consumer protection. Threats to intellectual property in the digital age.

Content:

The impact of data protection regulations in a globalised and digital market: the  General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the EU and the challenges arising from its application.

Artificial Intelligence Law: protection of rights; risks involved in automated decision-making, particularly in sensitive industries like health and finance; the institutional key to AI governance; new EU AI Act.

Content:

Tax challenges in the digital economy and strategies to address them. Taxation of large digital platforms, new forms of digital income and their tax treatment. European cybersecurity legislation: NIS2 Directive and the new Cybersecurity Act.
